Girl Scouts at Your Walks
How to provide the Walk Together patch for Girl Scouts at your walks.
There are three Girl Scout councils serving the state of Washington. The Girl Scout council which covers most of the west side of the state -- Girl Scouts of Western Washington (GSWW) -- is no longer publishing volkssport events in their Event Guide. However, GSWW Girl Scout offices are being supplied with a few Northwest Pathfinders and with memos telling them to contact the POC of a walk if they want to get the Walk Together patch (also called the Participation Patch for Girl Scout walks) for participating in an event.
Girl Scouts in Clark and Skamania Counties are being served by Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington, whose main office is in Portland. Phone (800) 338-5248. Girl Scouts on the east side of the state are served by Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho, whose main office is in Spokane. Phone (509) 747-8091. If you wish to see if these councils can publish your events on their website or in an event guide, contact these councils directly.
Sometimes girls will have already received the patch for the current year. If this is the case, you can provide them with the footprint the ESVA has purchased to put along the patch's edge on their uniform sash. See Footprint below.
The Walk Together Patch
The Walk Together Patch is always an award and so you must charge for Volkssport credit as well as the cost of the patch -- $1 from the AVA. Should you get contacted, you can accommodate them either before or after the event.
- If there's enough time before the event to have the AVA send them to you, email Connie Runkel at connie@ava.org to get the patches on consignment. Ask how many will want the patch, and order enough to cover. Patches will be sent with a consignment form, which you return with unused patches along with your walk stamp and after action report. The AVA will bill you only for the patches you sell @ $1 each. You are not billed for shipping and handling. Keep the cost at $4 -- $3 for volkssport credit and $1 for the patch.
- If you don't know in advance, or enough time in advance, you can buy patches after your event from the AVA. Order them from Connie Runkel. The AVA will bill you $1 for each patch. You can then send them to the leader to disperse. You might charge a little extra to cover S&H. Click here for a form for you to use at the event to record ordering information. Remember the award fee must include $3 for volkssport credit.
The Footprint Patch
The ESVA has purchased some footprint patches for those Girl Scouts who already have this year's patch. You can get them from Sue Black, either on consignment before the event, or by purchasing them afterwards. The cost is $1 each. Again, this is an award. Girl Scouts must pay the credit fee, plus the $1 for the footprint patch. Contact Sue at scblack@comcast.net or (425) 747-3484 to get the footprints for your walk. Return unused footprints promptly.
Girl Scouts Walk for Credit
Be sure to register girls as Credit or Credit and award, depending on how you want to keep track. This applies to both Walk Together patch and Footprint purchasers. Since these are credit walkers, provide information about New Walker packets if they don't already keep record books, and/or provide insert cards for event and distance stamps.
If you wish, you can use the Walk Together patch as an award for everyone who wants to walk for credit and award at your event.
