Capitol Volkssport Club's Train Trip to Portland
The CVC takes the Amtrak Cascades to walk in Portland.
On Friday morning, October 16, 2009, fourteen members of the Capitol Volkssport Club climbed aboard the Amtrak Cascades in Olympia and headed to Portland for the day. The conductor seated us all together so we were able to visit as we watched the fall foliage pass us by.
When we arrived in Portland we were greeted by Dick Baker and his wife from the Rose City Wanderers. They were very helpful with directions and advice for lunch options. The warm fall day, terrific views of downtown Portland, good friends to visit with, and a delicious lunch at a local brewpub made the 10 km walk a great success. Some of us continued on to do an additional 6 km walk. Others of us decided to have coffee at a local coffee shop or headed off to browse at Powell's Book Store.
We again were given seats together on the way home where we planned our next train ride - maybe north to Bellingham!
