Trail Ratings
Difficulty ratings of event routes 1-5
What do the trail ratings mean?
Trails are rated for difficulty so you can more easily choose which one will suit your walking style.
1. Easy -- on pavement or well-maintained trail with no significant hills. Probably suitable for wheelchairs and strollers.
2. Moderately easy -- may be on pavement or on trails. No significant difficulty with hills. May not be suitable for wheelchairs and strollers.
3. Moderate -- in any setting with some difficult terrain, some substantial hills and/or steps. Not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs.
4. More difficult -- in a natural setting with poorly maintained paths and steeper terrain. Not suitable for wheelchair or stroller. Participants with certain health problems should take caution.
5. Very difficult -- rough fields or woods with many steep hills or high altitude trails, very rough uneven terrain and steep or unstable inclines. Not suitable for participants in questionable health.
Precautions: Be aware that weather conditons will cause a variance in trail rating. An unexpected hot or cold day can increase the degree of difficulty of a trail as much as one or two full points, so each participant should adjust accordingly. It is as possible to become dehydrated in cold weather as in hot. It is advisable to carry water to all volkssport events.
