History of Volkssporting in Washington State

Formation of the ESVA

The first Volkssport club in Washington, the Fort Lewis Lancers, started by Chuck Repik and Robert Hern, held its first event at Fort Lewis in the fall of 1982.  After a reorganization, Lancer club members formed the Evergreen Wanderers which held its first event in 1983. The Federal Way Lions noon club formed the Sea-Tac Volkssports Club in the fall of 1983 and held it first event at Green River College the summer of 1984.  The FS Family Wanderers and Capitol Volkssport Club followed.

Washington formed a state organizational governing body, The Evergreen State Volkssport Association (ESVA), which joined the AVA in 1984 with four member clubs.  The AVA charter is dated June 20, 1984.  Preston Johnson signed the Articles of Incorporation and served as first president.

Today there are 30 active Volkssport clubs in Washington who sanction over 250 events annually.
